How to register in ZealiD

If you have selected remote identification, here are the steps you need to follow to complete the process.

1. Download the ZealiD application

If you are using a iOS device, you can download it by going to the App Store

If your device is running Android, download it from the Play Store.

2. Log in

The first step of the registration in the app is the verification of identity through your bank account. This step is necessary to comply with Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014, known as the eIDAS Regulation, on electronic identification.

Why do I have to give my bank details?

ZealiD, as a Qualified Trust Service Provider, is obliged to identify its users. This identification is done through Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), which is a requirement of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). In order to comply with due diligence, ZealiD applies the KYC (Know Your Customer) identification methodology to avoid any type of fraud. In KYC processes, the applicant has to submit certain documents and evidence that will be checked against trusted sources. In this case, your bank account information is checked.

3. PIN selection

You have to choose a four-digit PIN code that will work as a password for the ZealiD application.

4. Proof of Life

To check that there really is a real person doing the registration and that there is no attempt at fraud, ZealiD will ask you for proof of life. In other words, it will ask you to record your face from the front and from the side to ensure that there is a real person doing the registration and that it is not a video, thus minimising the risk of identity theft.

5. Identity Card

Next you must select the identity document you want to use to identify yourself. You can use your DNI, NIE or Passport.

The document you use to identify yourself with ZealiD will later appear on your electronic certificate. Bear this in mind, especially if you decide to use your passport, as the number is not valid for life but changes with renewals. Therefore, if you are ever asked to provide the original document together with the electronic certificate, you may have a different number.

6. Completion of registration

Once the identity document has been uploaded, an operator will go through the documents and the validation process will be completed after several minutes.

When the process is finished, the main screen of the application will allow you to scan QR codes and upload and sign documents

Once the registration in the ZealiD app has been completed, the next step to finish the certificate issuance process is to sign our Terms and Conditions contract.

You need to register with ZealiD if you have requested “Remote (ZealiD)” as your method of identification.

If, on the other hand, you have requested identification in person or via an advanced electronic signature, you do not need to download the app or register.

No. Once you finish the registration with ZealiD, the identification phase is completed. Then you have to sign the Terms and Conditions contract with EADTrust. ZealiD will request you:

  • Name and surname.
  • E-mail address.
  • Mobile phone.
  • Nationality.
  • Account holder’s full name, address and/or personal code, name of the financial institution, international bank account number (IBAN).
  • Identity number (DNI, NIE or passport).

The electronic certificate is used to identify you before Public Administrations and to sign documents electronically. Therefore, to guarantee your identity, it is necessary to back up your identity with official documents. The DNI is used both to accredit your identity so that the certificate can be issued to you and to include this information in the certificate so that, every time you use it, the other party can be sure who is signing.

One of the requirements of Strong Customer Identification is the use of multi-factor authentication, i.e. a combination of two forms of identification. Two of these options must be used: 

  • Something known to the customer. For example a PIN.
  • Something the customer owns, such as a mobile phone.
  • Something inherent to the customer, such as a fingerprint.

To associate your phone and the app with your account, ZealiD sends you an SMS and asks you to confirm with your fingerprint.
